I’m on a crochet grind for charity!
Last month, a member of a crochet Discord I belong to gave me 15lbs of mixed acrylic yarn from their stash that they were looking to re-home. My personal challenge now is to turn as much of this yarn (plus some leftovers from my stash) into as many donatable items before December 1!
I’ve made decent progress so far:
Not bad for 1 month of work! I’ve got so much more yarn to get through, so here’s what’s on my hook this week:
I’ve decided that any odd skeins of yarn that don’t match enough with others to turn into a blanket will become scarves or hats. So, I started this scarf 2 weeks ago, using 2 skeins of Loops & Threads Soft & Shiny in Pumpkin, and the pattern is a 2-row repeat that makes a mesh fabric. The pattern is not reversible, but both sides look similar enough to not be noticeable when worn.
The airy stitch pattern plus the sleek, soft yarn makes for a very drapey scarf! I’m using up as much of this yarn as I can, so this’ll probably be a long or extra long scarf. And because I hate making fringe, I’m thinking of adding a bobble trim to the ends of this instead.
This is my second blanket for this charity challenge. I’ve got 4 skeins of Red Heart Super Saver in Bonbon and 1 in Pretty n’ Pink. Whether or not this becomes a baby blanket or a lap blanket depends on the final length!
Though it’s improved over the years, RHSS is notoriously rough and stiff. To counteract this, I opted for an airy stitch to add drape. And since this is couch project to work on while watching tv or waiting for game queues, I wanted a stitch that I could work easily and mindlessly. Therefore, I settled on the Wattle Stitch, which is a 1-row repeat that’s worked into chain spaces.
In the future, I plan to add a project gallery to this site. I think it’ll be nice to have a wall of all my work with my project notes and pattern/yarn links for folks who may want to make some something similar. Soon, soon!
